The Death domain is concerned with the forces that cause death, as well as the negative energy that gives rise to undead creatures. Deities such as Chemosh, Myrkul, and Wee Jas are patrons of necromancers, death knights, liches, mummy lords, and vampires. Guide (ALPG), the Adventurers League Dungeon Master’s Guide (ALDMG), or this FAQ establish the boundaries for our current campaign. However, as a general rule, the D&D Adventurers League does not adjudicate general rules questions; only those which establish the availability of specific play options for our current campaign. Nov 29, 2017 I am looking to create a character for an upcoming game of 'Way of the Wicked.' Converted to 5E. NO SPOILERS PLEASE, though general advice is welcome. I have always wanted to play this module and a 5e version is perfect. At first I was going to make a Paladin or War Cleric, but then I noticed the death domain and wondered. So I'm now looking at more of a caster/witch type character.

@pukunui81@gregbilsland@mikemearlsWhy is the Death domain in the DMG? PHB has both assassin and necromancer. Seems arbitrary to me. The Death domain and the Oathbreaker in the DMG were designed for villains.

@pukunui81But what makes a death priest more villainous than an assassin or necromancer? Why aren’t they in the DMG too? As written, death priests pledge their souls to sinister powers. An assassin or a necromancer is, by default, more gray.

@sagechan1but why is Kelemvor listed for death domain? villainous death domain vs upholding the sanctity of death type god A god like Kelemvor does buck the trend, which is why the DMG leaves the door open for PC clerics to take the Death domain.

DEATH DOMAIN
Granted Power: You may use a death touch once per day. Your death touch is a supernatural ability that produces a death effect. You must succeed on a melee touch attack against a living creature (using the rules for touch spells). When you touch, roll 1d6 per cleric level you possess. If the total at least equals the creature’s current hit points, it dies (no save).
Death Domain Spells
- Cause Fear: One creature of 5 HD or less flees for 1d4 rounds.
- Death Knell: Kill dying creature and gain 1d8 temporary hp, +2 to Str, and +1 caster level.

- Slay Living: Touch attack kills subject.
- Create UndeadM: Create ghouls, ghasts, mummies, or mohrgs.
- DestructionF: Kills subject and destroys remains.
